This mine lies south east of Saltburn and had a short branch connection with the N.E.R. line to Brotton. The water level enters Saltburn beck close to the site of Marske Mill. The first output was 428 tons 9 cwt for 23rd October 1875.
The mine seems to have been predisposed to fire. During shaft sinking the mine and plant caught fire and extensive damage was done. Again a few years later a fire occurred, though with less disastrous consequences.
