Many moons ago, when the council decided to landscape this area, they asked Ian Taylor if he could provide a plan for a stone circle with alignments to the solstices etc. I remember visiting the site when it was just a wasteland and we looked for points on the horizon which might pinpoint the best spot for the circle. I Think Roddy Perrett in Sheffield may have calculated the positions of various astromical risings and settings, as seen from the site, and the stones were positioned to mark these. Not sure whether they used that plan or just went for something that just looked the part.

You’re a man of many talents G. I think they stuck with the alignments.
