  1. All of the deep beck valleys that run north to the tees cut through the Stainton gravel beds a bed averaging 1 ft. thick containing preserved fossils of many ages including Human , bone and stone tools . Spencerbeck seems to be an exception .

    • There is definite evidence of prehistoric activity up by the head of the beck Heath. A prehistoric midden was discovered near the old Normanby brick works. There has also been late Iron Age stuff found on Ormesby Bank not to mention the activity in the hills above the beck.
