An important picture for the whole the area. My wife bought me a framed photograph by Ged Hickey of this blast furnace in all its glory last Christmas. Its an important reminder of why we are here now. My Grandfather on my father’s side came to Middlesbrough from Ireland after the First World War to find work in the steel works. He married and had three children one of them was my Dad. I married and had two boys and now they are married and have children. I tell the grandchildren that they are because of steel. Its so important that we do not forget our industrial heritage
