The site was excavated by Frank Elgee who found nothing. It was also excavated in 1959 by Rowland Close who cut three trenches through the bank and ditch and two pits, one within the enclosure and one close to a nearby cairn. He found burnt stone and charcoal in the trenches and the base from a Late Bronze Age or Iron Age pot.
