Bishopton Motte

The Motte and Bailey was probably erected during the 11th century by the Conyers family.
The Motte is 45ft high, both the Motte and Bailey were protected by moats fed from the nearby beck.
There are a number of these structures dotted around the margins of Teesside, this is probably the best preserved example.
